Twins — Posted by: Jill on January 31, 2008 - 11:54 am
I had another ultrasound today to measure the twins, make sure they are growing as they are expected to for this gestational age, and make sure one’s not significantly bigger than the other. I am pleased to announce that they are both still growing, active, and are pretty much exactly the same size. They both estimate to weigh 2 lbs 9 ounces, with estimated gestational ages of 28 weeks 3 days (Hallie) and 28 weeks 1 day (Brighton). My actual gestation is 27 weeks 4 days, so they are measuring slightly ahead of schedule, but the doctor says their growth will be slower at 32-33 weeks than a single pregnancy so it’s a good thing. I’m still hoping they stay in until at least April 1st, which would be 36 weeks… and that’s only 8 weeks away!

Lately, all of our plans are scheduled around finishing our basement. What a project! We knew it would be time consuming, but in order to complete it in enough time to get Coley’s room and the twins’ room done before they arrive, we are seriously crunched. Taylor has done an awesome job planning, framing, and doing the rough electrical. The heating and AC ducts are done. The plumber comes today, and then we should be ready for the city inspection. Yippee… first major milestone!!!
After the inspection, Taylor will need to put in the insulation and we’ll schedule the drywall company. Yippee… second major milestone! Then we get to look forward to all the finish work: baseboards, casing, shelving, doors, prime, paint, cabinets, finish plumbing, countertops, finish electrical and lighting, laminate flooring, tile, and carpet. Then we get to move our storage stuff in the garage down to the storage room and move the office stuff down to the office, before we get to work on Coley’s room and the twins room. And we’re hoping to have all of this done by March, before the twins come (beginning of April).

My family always goes bowling on New Years Day. This year was no exception. Tay and I were so excited to take Coley this year as he’s finally old enough to bowl with help. Much to our dismay, the bowling alley is not the safest place for a very enthusiastic 20 mo old. To say it bluntly, Coley was a pill! We got to the bowling alley about 20 min before the rest of my family, which was like torture to our little boy who just didn’t understand why he couldn’t get the balls and run down the lanes to follow them. He just kept yelling “ball, ball” as he constantly was struggling to get down and run. When my family finally came, Taylor and I were already exhausted from wrestling and chasing our crazy little man. When we finally started bowling, he loved the bowling balls and was super excited to roll them down the lane, but he wanted to chase them. Once, he successfully escaped from my grasp running full blast down the lane toward the pins. The sliding and falling down didn’t deter him, he was determined to follow the ball! I finally caught him about 3/4 the way down the lane and brought him back kicking and screaming. He never grasped the concept of taking turns either. He loved the ball return too… scaring all of us by putting his head right where the balls come up or by putting his hands where they could get smashed by the balls. Luckily, no injuries occurred, but he surely tested our patience and physical stamina. I think it will be a while before we attempt taking Cole bowling again.
